Wonderful tour of Stockholm with a great guide
BluebirdBonnie, 16-12-2019
My husband and I had only a weekend to spend in the beautiful city of Stockholm, Sweden. In addition, it was December, close to the shortest day of the year. To maximize our efficiency and fun, we decided to book a private tour. It was a great decision! Thomas Andersson, our guide knows the city like the back of his hand. He asked us what we were interested in and made suggestions, all of which were wonderful! He is full of fascinating details about the history of this multi-island metropolis. In the space of this review, I cannot describe everything we did within 8 hours. Even though the weather was rainy and cold, we had a blast! Wow, was it ever a good idea to travel in a comfortable limo!
Since we were on our own private tour, we could pick what we were most interested in. For example, in order to save more time for other sights and a more leisurely lunch, we chose to see only the outside of the lovely royal palace. We spent more time at the incredible Vasa Museum, home of the Vasa warship that was launched in 1628, only to sink almost immediately in Stockholm harbor. We were in awe to see this huge wooden sailing vessel, salvaged from the depths in the late 1950's and early 60's. It is remarkable that most of it survived centuries of immersion in water and mud. The museum has a not-to-be-missed video about the Vasa. We greatly enjoyed our visit to the Stockholm City Hall, the site of the Nobel Prize laureates' banquet, and also of the most beautiful golden mosaic hall we have seen outside of Italy. We toured the old town and visited the Christmas market after dark. As we wanted to buy presents, Thomas took us to several wonderful shopping streets in the old town. The next day, we went back and bought lovely Swedish woolens and handmade earrings and pendants. I also must mention the terrific lunch we had at Tradition Oster, a wonderful small restaurant on Österlånggatan in the old town.
This outstanding personalized guided excursion absolutely made our short visit to Stockholm a success! We give it our highest recommendation!
Great Time

We had Thomas for a full day plus airport transfers. Great service. You can tell he has been doing this for a long time. Information overload about Stockholm but in a very good way. Only a seasoned guide can do that. Great job.
